Poteau’s Dunbar Park is located on what used to be the old Boy Scout Camp. The park is named in honor of the old Dunbar School, which was an all-black school and the first in Oklahoma to be desegregated. The park was founded by Ms. Ladell Phillips , Mrs Byrd, and Ms. Linda. It was upgraded later by Lisa Lynn and several volunteers.
This Poteau park is typically pretty quiet, with few visitors per day. It has a nice pavilion, swings, monkey bars, and a merry-go-round. It is set up more as a neighborhood park than a city park. Maintained by the City of Poteau, this park provides a nice, relaxing atmosphere for those who want to avoid the larger city parks in the area.
